The Motag Living Museum gives you the unique opportunity to see how rural families lived, farmed and played 100 years ago.

Located on the main land and approximately 1 hour, from Boracay this tour should be on the top of your 'Things to Do' list.

You will be taken on a guided tour, and given explanations and historical background every step of the way, about rice production 100 years ago.

        Motag Living Museum Boracay Aklan

Everything at the museum is authentic, from the housing and buildings, collecting water from the natural spring well, the cooking utensils through to the rice production, clothing, songs and toys.

Activities to Try:

  • Try your hand at ploughing the fields (on the back of a Carabao, or riding the Ligis)
  • Slip off your flip flops and step in to the field to help with sowing or harvesting the rice seeds.  Enjoy the sensation of hot, sticky mud between your toes; a free, all-natural spa treatment, with a wash off afterwards with natural spring water.
  • Try your feet, rather than your hands, at threshing on the raised platform
  • Or give pounding the rice a go and see if you can match the rhythm set by the experts.
  • Take a wander around the family farmstead
  • Try out some of the traditional games and activities played by the children.
  • Enjoy some of the delicious treats on offer, made with rice to traditional recipes
  • Sit with some of the Village 'elders', take in the views and sounds, and listen to their traditional Malayanon stories and songs, whilst they teach you to weave.

The tour will last approximately 2 hours.

Visitors may want to extend their visit to the mainland and include a trip to the Nabaoy River.

Nabaoy River is a favourite of Boracay locals, wanting to get back to nature; a natural spring river, shaded by trees, which has shack bars along it, offering refreshments.

Ask the Tour Guides at Motag Living Museum for directions or assistance to get to Nabaoy River. Some of the serviced areas of Nabaoy also have karaoke booths, so if you would prefer to avoid this pastime make sure you explain that to the Tour Guide or trike driver.

    High
